Being unhappy, the complete opposite of the one thing everyone wants in life. So why should your portfolio management life be any different? Answer: it shouldn’t.
This is why I use a happiness score as a primary performance indicator in all of my work. So how am I using it?
Firstly, I make sure the team are aware of the happiness target for the future (however long that is) i.e. 2, 3 or 6 months. In one particular instance I met with the Transformation Director every month and specifically asked him to score how happy he is out of 10 with the Portfolio Office. I then communicated this to my team and used it to make sure we were on track with our delivery or if we need to, amend the plan to boost happiness.
This is the graph I used, this one is really basic…but it worked really well.
